Sockapalooza yarn!

I have finally found the yarn for my sock pal – I hope it will go nicely with the pattern! I thought it would be apt, given that I am Canadian to use a Canadian yarn (and also to support Canadian industry!!).

It is a very pretty yarn, the photo makes it a little washed out. it’s quite a lively colour. I hope she likes it!!

My little pug – he was very excited by the yarn, and attempted to steal it for his own evil ends. Happily I managed to steer him away from the yarn by luring him with his dinner. A pug and his dinner shall never be parted! He is a total piggy.

Took this a couple weeks ago – this is how he sleeps. And boy does he love that ducky! I swear this photo is not posed. He really was sleeping like that.

This is today – in his little cone (he damaged his eye). Staring longingly up at his dinner bowl which is on the counter, fervently wishing for food to magically appear.

Jerky Jerkmakers

Ah today has been a long day. I am glad it is almost over. No knitting today…. not yet at least. Maybe a little before bed. Been working on the C4 cardi over the weekend – and it is coming along. this one is a top down raglan sleeve construction, and boy is it ever neat to be able to try something on as it is being knit. Good style to try out on a bolero or short jacket/shrug thingie.

Weekend was really nice. Saturday afternoon we have friends visiting from Holland, then pug sat Max – a friend’s fawn pug. Sunday we ate ourselves stupid at a great restaurant in Putney called the Pheonix. Yummy! Monday a friend fed us lunch, and of course we ate ourselves stupid, and then played some drunk scrabble. Then back to work today – what a shocker!

Got yelled at by a guy feeling frustrated that his project has sat with legal for 5 weeks – my colleague sat on it for 3, then passed it to me with minimal information. Basically dropped me in it but neglected to tell me. Nice. Doubly mad – I wanted to meet Laura as it was her bday drinks but instead ended up doing damage control for the joker who was such a jerk to me.

So belated birthday wishes Laura, and apologies for missing out!!

On a happier note, I believe the Knit Picks parcels should be shipping shortly. The whole thing was held up by one participant who went AWOL. Since I’ve had no response despite a number of emails asking to get in touch, including on her blog, we have just had to go ahead without her. It just wasn’t fair to keep delaying everyone else’s parcels. Still, I hope she managed to get her order in today – I saw she updated her blog so hopefully got my messages.

More fun news – DF and I have settled on a wedding venue – ol’ stomping grounds for me, Banff, Canada. Can’t wait. It will be cold and crisp (living in London I really miss the cold crisp winters), but not too cold!! I also found a lady who will help me make my invites, which will be fun too. What they are going to be is under wraps! But when they are all done and mailed out I’ll post some piccies!!

Now more questions for you my dears – if you could choose what stock is being carried in your dream knitting store – what would you choose? And what would make it your dream store? (haha these questions are going somewhere, I promise!!)

Ahhh knitterly goodness

More pressies in the post – the lovely Blueadt sent me some IK back issues in exchange for some surrogate retail therapy. Thank you! They are in perfect condition (from winghamwoolwork).

The patterns look great – I’m waiting for the Favorite Sock book, and in the meanwhile the two slipper patterns in the two back issues will keep me more than occupied!

Some piccies of the cashmere – for some reason I got two cones of the pink. I can only assume that each cone is half of it, or maybe i got lucky.

The coned yarn needs to be washed (still greased or something). I washed the hank at the bottom there – you can see a strand of the washed once its bloomed, and a strand of the unwashed to its left. Much thinner!

This is the DK in marshmallow – very slightly pink. The bloom isn’t quite as pronounced, but it is still there. Will knit up some swatches and see if the 2mm needles are small enough. Very soft stuff!

Frogs frogs all over

Been working on my sockapalooza sock. The pattern is pretty, but I can’t quite get the edging down… have frogged the bottom of the sock 3 times now. I’ll figure it out and post some piccies on progress. Will be asking for your suggestions on yarn & colour! Am currently using a variegated yarn, fairgrounds by STR, but don’t think the variations in colour aresubtle enough.

Oooh Woolfest. This’ll be fun -can’t wait to see Jane & Yoshimi there. I feel sorry for my poor wallet already!

I had yesterday off, since my friend E was in town. Met her for breakfast at the Pain Quotidienne on the Marylebone Road (I think it is a US chain). A lurcher named Connie was at the next table over. I had Deuce with me, as had to take Deuce to the vet for a follow up on his eye (he had scratched it on the weekend), so he tried to make friends with Connie, who was, oh, 6 times his height! She totally ignored him. His vet appt went a-ok. Vet says he has allergies, which would explain his sneezing.

Dropped Deuce off at home as Cleone his walker was coming round to pick him up at noon for an afternoon in the park, I ran into town to run some errands, then met up with my friend again for afternoon tea (well, more like a late lunch) at Liberty’s. The Art Bar Cafe is closed for renovations (poo! the last knit meet up I went to was there and it was really nice). We stumbled across another of their cafes called Tea on the way out, so had a breather and a snack, before she headed back to pack for her evening flight.

I picked up my pressie from the post office, and it was my yarn from Colourmart – two cones of cashmere. A pink and red twist 4 ply, and a cream coloured 4 ply perfect for dying. I thought the 4 ply would be perfect for socks… turns out it is rather alot thinner than I thought. I’ll knit up a swatch tonight and see how it goes – my smallest needles are 2mm. I’m not convinced they are small enough!

Df was out on his ‘Budget Dining Society’ night – which started out with the £10 for two courses specials you get in the paper, but all pretense at ‘budget’ has now gone out the window and it is really just an excuse for his friends to get together drink alot and go out for a nice meal somewhere. It meant I had a night in with my favourite little man (ok, pug) and some catching up on TV. Watched Volver, some Scrubs and Ugly Betty. Oh and a bit of Notting Hill which was on Film4. And knit, and frogged, and knit and frogged! Hopefully not so much frogging tonight.

Long weekend coming up – Monday is a holiday here. Df and I are heading to Henley to check out wedding venues for next May. I think we found a great place for the ceremony, gonna go check it out on Saturday, then take a friend’s pug out in the afternoon for some time in the park with Deuce (she’s at a wedding all day and all night). Haha and I have more knitting time!!!

Cupcakes and packages

Returned home today to find my favourite kind of post – ok, second favourite kind of post – a “Sorry you were out card” from Royal Mail. I have a package!! Wheee! But I know not what it is… is it the cashmere cone I got from Colourmart… or the sample cards I ordered from Fleece Artist? Or Cherry Tree Hill? Or Shelridge Farm? oooh so exciting.

I plied some of the spindle spun merino (oops, not BFL as I had thought. My lawyerly (lack of) attention to detail never ceases to astound me). It’s only 26 grams, but I love the way it looks. Washed it last night to set the twist, and dried it over the bath. I think a proper spinning wheel is on the cards for me – I am crap at resisting temptation, and it’s just too damn slow on a spindle. 26 grams!! And though Knitty’s Handy Plying is fab, it’s also slow and not all that fun.

I believe my pup Deuce is also quite keen on the yarn – but not for knitting. He loves yarn too – chewing and running around with it. I worry when he starts to stare intently at my hard won stash… STR seems to be a favourite of his…

Also the Hummingbird Bakery is opening up an outpost near the tube – I foresee stops in the morning to pick up cupcakes and cookies, and stop for coffee (though am very spoiled as my df always makes me latte in the morning… home brewed is so much nicer than store bought)…

Knitter knatter

Weekend has literally flown by. Friday I had the day off, and spent the morning with my goddaughter Sophia and her mom Barb at TT- a toddler music class. Fascinating stuff, like being in a live studio audience for Peter Paul and Mary or some other children’s tv show. Totally choreographed, three leaders of the class sang and danced and acted their way through the hour. Amazing voices, and very upbeat. Sophia cried – I think it was a little too upbeat for her tastes!

Meanwhile work continues on my tilting ladders sock – piccies in a day or so when I can set the camera up and download. I’m not happy with the colours – too much for the pattern, it all gets lost. But still, I knit. I really like the pattern. Will have to try it on a colourway with less distinctly different colours. I have also been playing around with the pattern of my Sockapalooza sock pal socks. Gauguin in Jitterbug was too variegated – lost the pattern. Same with STR Chapman springs. I am going to try dying my own, see if that will help. I need a subtle somewhat solid colour…. I am so glad we have until August!! I’ve started the C4 cardi and have knitted a few rows, and also spinning away at the BFL to see if i can make some sock yarn. I have about 50g left to spin, then will ply.

Thanks for all the sock yarn suggestions – lots of them I have never heard of before (Mountain Colours for example) and sound fab. Can’t wait to head over to NYC in the fall and hit the wool fest. I hope some of them will also be at the big knitting exhibition at Ally Pally this fall.

Friends came in from Holland last week, so we spent the afternoon today in the gardens hanging out. Perfect timing – headed out and the sun peeked out for our short stay outside.

Now back to the work week! Have been burning the candle at both ends -so off to get some shut eye.
